Indus, an upcoming Indian battle royale game, will be released in 2023, according to SuperGaming.

The Indus Battle Royale, a new game by Indian game company SuperGaming, adopts a distinctive Indo-futurism aesthetic by taking cues from the country’s rich culture and history.

The Silly Royale (formerly known as Devil Among Us) and Mask Gun video games from SuperGaming, the Pune-based game developer behind Indus battle royale, have a combined player base of over 200 million on Android and iOS. In 2022, PC and mobile users will be able to play the upcoming combat royale.

In recent years, the battle royale gaming subgenre has exploded onto the global gaming scene and has risen to the top. Alongside global games like Call of Duty Warzone, Fortnite, and Apex Legends, regional games like BGMI aka Battleground Mobile India (a variant of PUBG exclusive to India) and Garena Free Fire have millions of active players.

Two prior SuperGaming products, Silly Royale and Mask Gun, provided gamers with amazing experiences. Undoubtedly, the company will capitalise on its experience to produce a top-notch battle royale game.

Indus was referred to by Roby John of SuperGaming as a “made-in-India for-the-world battle royale” when outlining the studio’s objectives. He described the game as the “most ambitious game made in Indian gaming so far” in a recent Twitter conversation.

Given that there have only been a few completely completed games in India, hosting a playtest event for any game has been unusual. I was eager to see what Indus had to offer because SuperGaming is attempting to establish India as a “AAA” game-development nation with this project. When I actually got to play the game, though, my mental expectations quickly dissipated, and I did wind up being somewhat “judgmental.”

First off, I got to playtest this pre-alpha build on both my phone and my computer. It allowed me to enter the world of Indus and interact with other playtesters in the area known as “Jatayu Central” on the “Virlok” map. Since the game was still in the pre-alpha stage, it was reasonable that there wasn’t a pre-game lobby available. Given that we were only allowed to enter one location to attempt and understand what the game was about, there wasn’t much to investigate or even draw conclusions on.

Core Gameplay Was Missing in the Pre-Alpha Test.

Even though I truly wanted to enjoy the game, this particular player made it impossible for me to do so. The second your characters slid in, the gameplay felt quite clumsy. Even the fighting itself felt pretty unrefined. The fundamental concepts, such as picking up and dropping objects, holstering weapons, run-lock, jumping, etc., undoubtedly require a lot of development and appear incomplete.

I noticed all of this while playing on a mobile device rather than a computer. The PC construction wasn’t even close to being finished when I tried to make any kind of judgements. The group discussed the outcome of the contest.


The game’s weaponry were the one feature I actually enjoyed. The “Kismet” shotgun, an SMG, a heavy-duty sniper rifle, an LMG, and an assault rifle were all available for me to test out. It seems pretty promising from the noises to the way the rifles recoil. And it should, given that the developers examined actual weapons at shooting ranges to determine exactly how the Indus weaponry ought to look, feel, and behave. Damage calculations, shot accuracy, weapon flinch (particularly in the sniper rifle), and even the stability of the weapons while crouching and standing or shooting while moving are all still areas that want improvement.

The thing that truly worries me is that, while attempting to incorporate the entire idea of Indo-Futurism, SuperGaming appears to be heavily influenced by Apex Legends. In response to these internet analogies made by fans, SuperGaming stated that we can anticipate something wholly original with Indus. Despite the clarification, based on what I personally observed, it might not be totally accurate. Although the verticality of the game, the setting, and the weapon designs all have their own distinctive qualities, they all ultimately draw a lot of inspiration from Apex. There are certain similarities to Respawn’s game, but it is not a complete duplicate because it also has its own distinctive components br title

The Mythology of Indus Is Exceptionally Interesting

Additionally, Indus is creating a compelling backstory for the game. I’m pleasantly pleased by its depth and the concept that they are introducing with it, despite the fact that it is a bit of an oddity when it comes to BR games (fits extremely well for Apex though…). However, SuperGaming will only understand it if there is excellent gameplay to support it. With the lore master and game director, I also had the chance to chat more about the story and general gameplay of Indus. Next week, the complete interview will be released.

Indus still has a ways to go based on what I have observed and experienced thus far. It will be a huge effort for the team to simultaneously build the game on console, PC, and mobile. Given that the team is already working to address many issues, I wouldn’t argue that Indus has to start from scratch. But in terms of this playtest, there wasn’t much to experience in terms of the fundamental gameplay, so it could have been postponed a little.

I only wish SuperGaming would wait a little longer before publishing the game. I don’t want one of the first BR games from India to experience the same fate as Cyberpunk 2077 by being released as a broken mess. I would implore SuperGaming to take its time, release a fantastic game, and watch care for the health of its developers. There is no better moment to be creating a wholly made-in-India BR title given the recent developments in the Indian esports industry (IYKYK).
